About MSD Services

The MSD is a special district providing municipal services to five metro townships, a town and unincorporated Salt Lake County. The member communities consist of:

Town of Brighton
Copperton Metro Township
Emigration Canyon Metro Township
Kearns Metro Township
Magna Metro Township
White City Metro Township
Unincorporated Salt Lake County

The MSD is governed by a Board of Trustees made up of five mayors and two council members from the member communities.

The MSD provides the following Municipal Services:

Planning and Zoning
- Addressing
- Building & Grading Permits and Inspections
- Plan Review
- Land Use and Zoning
- Current and Long Range Planning
- Floodplain Permits
- Stormwater Management Planning
- Economic Development - contracted with Salt Lake County Office of Regional Development
Animal Control Services - contracted with Salt Lake County Animal Services
Parks Maintenance and Operations - contracted with Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation and/or a third party.
Public Works - Construction and Maintenance of Rights-of-Way - contracted with Salt Lake County Public Works Operations and Engineering, including:
Business Licensing
Code Enforcement

The MSD does not provide police, fire protection or sanitation services.
